The eLearning Foundations course is aimed at participants who want an overview of the eLearning landscape so they can have more effective conversations with vendors, stakeholders, designers, developers and everyone in-between.

Whether you're a learning and development or Human Resources professional with many years of experience or someone expanding their business to include online learning courses for their clients, this course will help you navigate the world of eLearning to be able to make more informed decisions.

The course covers everything from project management, the roles and responsibilities of an elearning team as well as the skills required to design, develop and deliver eLearning. We talk the talk by exploring the many terms and technical concepts related to elearning (without getting technical) as well as introducing you to how eLearning is designed, developed and delivered.

There is no assumed level of knowledge and past students include Human Resource practitioners, as well as small business owners, business coaches and seasoned Learning & Development professionals.

The course is five weeks of mainly self directed learning, with the inclusion of three live online classes conducted through a virtual class platform. Participants can join the classes from any location and join the discussions and activities. These classes are facilitated by me and take place in weeks one, three and five.

The practical component (or assignment if that’s what you want to call it) is submitted in week five. Participants will write a business case justifying the implementation of an elearning solution for a fictitious company in the provided case study, which can be adapted to suit participants' own work environments.

AITD also offers two further courses about eLearning. They are eLearning: Planning & Design and eLearning: Production & Delivering. These courses pick up where the eLearning Foundations left off, and continue with a deeper dive into the eLearning workflow and processes.

The eLearning: Planning & Design course explores all the facets of designing online and blended learning experiences from instructional design, through to learning experience design, visual design, and user experience design.

The practical component requires students to design an online induction program for our case study organisation provided as part of the eLearning Foundations course.

The third and final course in the elearning suite of courses focuses on the building and delivery of elearning where we explore the technologies and tools to build eLearning experiences and digital learning content. We also look athe systems and platforms to deliver the eLearning experience.

The practical component for the building and delivering elearning course requires participants to build an online induction course using a number of the tools and technologies that are covered and provided free of charge as part of the course.

If you want to take a complete eLearning journey from beginner to advanced then it is recommended that you complete all three courses in the order they are spoken about here. Otherwise the courses can be done individually, where an assumed level of knowledge is expected.

The courses are delivered using this learning platform called LearnDash. A lot of the content is curated from various sources including industry white papers, articles, videos, podcasts as well as my own experiences covering 25 years in the learning and digital spaces.
